Full bucket protection – an investment that pays off

By the time wear becomes visible on a bucket, the costs have already started to add up. For many machine owners, wear protection is still seen as an additional expense, but in reality, the opposite is often true. Protecting the bucket from day one can mean fewer repairs, less downtime, and a significantly longer service life for the equipment.

– If you take care of a bucket from day one, it can practically last forever, says Pelle Kristensson, Area Sales Manager at Combi Wear Parts.

 

Protect the bucket, it will pay off

When it comes to wear protection, many focus on teeth and adapters. But these are only parts of the equation. A Full Bucket Solution means protecting the most exposed areas of the entire bucket – the front edge, side walls, and corners.

Lip shrouds between the teeth, side protection on the bucket walls, and heel shrouds around the corners help absorb wear before it reaches the bucket structure itself. Another effective product is the white iron horseshoe, which provides excellent protection for the adapter legs.

– It is far less expensive to replace a wear part than to repair a worn-out bucket, says Pelle.

Repairs cost more than many realize

When wear is allowed to progress too far, extensive repairs are often required, which can become extremely costly. Not only in terms of material costs, but also through lost production.

Replacing a larger bucket can cost tens of thousands of euros, while the largest mining buckets can cost hundreds of thousands of euros. At the same time, a major repair can result in one to two weeks of downtime.

– A bucket doesn’t make money in the workshop, standing still waiting for repairs. It should be out in production, says Pelle.

Beyond the direct repair costs, the bucket’s steel will lose its original properties when the same areas are repeatedly heated and welded during repairs, potentially leading to additional maintenance costs and downtime.
